Waking up in the morning at Refuge de Chalin is a special experience I would recommend to any keen hiker. Over looking the Portes du Soleil, Val D’Illiez, Lac Leman and further you have a full 200 degrees view over the valley below.  I’ve also written an editorial post about this painting trip which you can read more about here.  In this painting we see the large shadow cast by the Dents du Midi moving slowly across the mountains below and can just start to make out the shapes of ‘Les Dents’.  As the sun moves up their shapes become more recognisable as you will see in the second painting from this trip.
